Je bois un café tous les matins

A few weekends ago I spent some time with my family in Bangalow. One afternoon we were pottering in the main street when a man asked us, "Just down for the weekend? Where are you from?"

"Brisbane," we replied.

"Oh Brisbane, we were up there the other weekend. We were just wandering through the Valley and found this little hole in the wall. The place had great coffee and a quaint atmosphere. I was so surprised, the coffee was excellent."

I, on the other hand, was not surprised by this comment, nor  by this apparent revalation that one could stumble across, an off-the-main-drag space with delicious coffee. The rest of Australia, seems to be genuinely surprised or confused by the concept that Brisbane can deliver a fabulous flat white.

I often found myself stumbling across new little places that I have never noticed before. My current favourite is on Enogerra Tce, Paddington. I call it the Café with No Name, as there is no signage. They make a very delicious avo on sourdough toast with lots of lemon and pepper.

For a great cup and something sweet check out, (more detailed posts to come)
